Description

This course delves into issues of leadership, social justice, and fairness in complex organizations. Organizational settings explored include corporations, not-for-profit service agencies, self-governing Indigenous communities, and government institutions. Students examine how organizational structure, policy, social psychology, and the interdependencies between different forms of organizations can influence fairness, justice and equity. Issues are explored from individual, group, organizational, and societal perspectives. The topics for research and discussion include emerging contingency models of leadership, servant and moral leadership, followership, crisis leadership, reconciliation with Indigenous communities, best practices in diversity management, and how to recognize and mitigate toxic leaders.
