What this is, where the data comes from, and what happens to yours.

Is UW Smart Planner official?
No. It is an independent tool built by a student, and it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the University of Winnipeg. WebAdvisor is the university's system of record. Confirm anything you read here with WebAdvisor or an academic advisor before you register.
Where does the course information come from?
From the University of Winnipeg's public academic calendar for 2026-27, which lists all 2,413 undergraduate courses, and from the public timetable. Nothing is taken from behind a login, and the planner never signs in to anything on your behalf.
How current are the sections and seat counts?
Section times, rooms and instructors are refreshed once a day. Seat counts for sections someone is watching are re-checked about every ten minutes. Registration moves faster than any copy of it, so treat what you see here as a strong hint and confirm the real number on WebAdvisor.
Do I need an account?
No. Course search, prerequisite checks, degree progress, the timetable builder and the path to graduation all work signed out, because they run on your own device. An account exists for two things only: seat alerts, which need somewhere to send a notification, and syncing your plan between your phone and your laptop.
What happens to my data?
Your degree, completed courses, any grades you enter and your timetable are stored in your browser and stay there unless you sign in. Signing in backs them up to a row only you can read. You can download everything, erase this device, or delete your account entirely from the profile page.The full details are in the privacy policy.
Can it register me for courses?
No, and it cannot see whether you are registered either. There is no access to WebAdvisor from here. Anything showing as registered is something you told the planner, which is why the wording is always that you marked it as registered.
Why does it keep telling me to check with an advisor?
Because for most programs the requirements held here are incomplete. Department requirements were transcribed from 55 calendar PDFs, and 71 of the 141 programs are still marked partial, meaning some of the department's wording could not be read with confidence. For those programs, a count of courses you still need is a floor rather than a total. Degree-level rules such as credit totals, level caps and residence are transcribed in full.
What does it cost?
Nothing. There are no ads and no paid tier.
Who built this?
Mukul Jha, a student at the University of Winnipeg. It started as a way to plan one degree without fighting WebAdvisor, and the parts that turned out to be useful became this.
I found something wrong. How do I report it?
Email us. Mistakes in course data are worth reporting even when they look small: the calendar is transcribed from PDFs, and one misread line can change what the planner tells every student taking that course. Requests about your own personal information go to a separate address and are answered within 30 days, the limit PIPEDA sets, and usually much sooner.The contact page has both addresses and what to include.
