Description
This course focuses on the practice of radiation therapy within the health care environment. It provides the student with the knowledge and skills to practice competently and empathetically in a radiation therapy department. Topics include: health care systems, infection prevention and control, patient assessment (including problem solving and critical thinking), psychosocial aspects of caring for cancer patients and their families, patient education (theory and practice), and site related side effects of cancer treatment (primarily radiation therapy). The lab component of this course provides the student with hands-on experience allowing them to relate the didactic material to simulated clinical situations.
