Description
This course combines classroom and experiential instruction to examine the historical relationship between the visual arts and Christianity. It engages questions of iconoclasm and iconophilia in considering Christianity's unique position on visual representation and the divine. This course critically interrogates Western art that is based on a Christian worldview as it explores artistic representation of the religious Other, colonialization, and gender. In its exploration of religious art, this takes students beyond the classroom to examine Christianity and art in Winnipeg, through architecture, stained glass, icons, and textile. Please
