Description

This is an introductory course in biochemistry. Topics include the structural characteristics and biological roles of biomolecules (including carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids); biological membranes;basic enzymology; and an overview of metabolism (including fuel metabolism, anabolism, and the regulation of metabolism). Students apply the principles of biochemistry to the study of human health, including the cause and approaches to the treatment of selected human diseases. Restriction: Students may not hold credit for CHEM-2502 and CHEM-2503. Students who already have a B or higher in CHEM-3502 or CHEM-3503 may not take this course for credit. This course MAY NOT be used for credit towards Chemistry or Biochemistry Majors.
