Description

This course reviews the fundamental concepts which are used to minimize risk when working with sources of ionizing radiation, with emphasis on the application of these concepts to radiation therapy. Topics covered include: types and sources of radiation, radiation quantities and units, biological effects and potential risk, basic principles of protection, regulation and dose limits, methods of dose monitoring, and application in radiation therapy. Students learn about the concept of quality processes in radiation therapy planning and delivery; and advances used to improve the delivery of healthcare.
