Description
The course will include a study of medically important microorganisms with emphasis on viruses and bacteria, including chlamydiae, mycoplasmas, and rickettsias. Topics to be covered will include mechanisms of microbial pathogenicity and virulence; the etiology and epidemiology of important human pathogens; public health and nosocomial infections; antimicrobial agents and chemotherapy; and basic principles of host defence mechanisms. Attention will also be paid to diseases of important animal species and to plants of economic importance.

BIOL-2902 and CHEM-1111 and CHEM-1112 [prerequisite(s)]; BIOL-3901L (lab) (must be taken concurrently).
