Description
This course is designed for students with no prior training in French. It focuses on basic grammatical and lexical skills, such as common verbs in simple tenses, interrogative and negative sentences, daily life greetings and conversation. Students focus on basic skills in oral and written comprehension and expression in class. In the weekly one-hour lab (travaux pratiques) students practice grammar aiming at vocabulary acquisition, and greater ease with morphology and syntax. Students complete short reading and writing tasks designed to develop a good foundation for future courses. This course does not count towards the major.

FREN-1100L (lab) (must be taken concurrently).
Restrictions
Students may not hold credit for this course and the former FREN-1001. Prerequisite: Placement test or permission of the department.
