Description
This course provides an overview of economic development issues as they relate to Indigenous communities in Canada. The course begins with an overview of economic concepts to enable students to think about the economic issues in Indigenous communities. A historical overview and discussion of development strategies of the Federal government in Canada is provided. Students are then exposed to ways that land, labour and capital can stimulate economic development on and off reserves. Issues of natural resource development and urban reserves are discussed. The course concludes with case studies of economic development in Indigenous communities, highlighting the diversity of these initiatives across Canada.
