Description
This course combines theory and practice in the study of the dynamics of low-income inner-city communities. The course includes an examination of some recent literature on the phenomenon of low-income inner cities. It also features a practicum placement -- three hours per week -- with an inner-city community-based organization, and a term paper based on primary research on an inner-city topic, preferably related to the practicum assignment. Students develop research skills in a hands-on fashion, while being exposed to the practical realities of day-to-day life in the inner city.
