Description
Migration and human mobility shape our relationships with places and with each other. Students examine and discuss global population movements from a critical perspective, exploring intersections between migration, citizenship and belonging, and the city. Topics include borders and immigration control; historical and recent trends in migration-related state policies; forced migration and refugee experiences; newcomer integration and place-making; labour mobility and precarity; and migrant justice activism. Students develop skills in researching, analyzing, and communicating information relevant to contemporary migration debates, and gain a theoretical and practical understanding of the processes shaping migration and settlement, with a focus on inner-city contexts.
