Description
This course is dedicated to the study of theatre history from the eighteenth century to the present. Students critically examine select periods and traditions in the modern history of theatre, such as: European avant-garde theatre; Chinese opera in diaspora; performance traditions in the United States, with emphasis on African American contributions; twentieth century political theatre in Europe and the Americas; post-colonial and intercultural theory in relation to theatre in Europe, Africa, Asia, South America, and North America; and theatre history in Canada.
