Description
(Lecture/Lab Combined with variable meeting hours) This course examines the fundamental principles and practical application of Applied Theatre; specifically, exploring theatrical practices that investigate how theatre and performance can affect an audience, build community, and provoke social change. Each offering of the course has a different area of focus, either a specific type of Applied Theatre or social issue ranging from the climate emergency to prison theatre. Class activities include arts-based research, improvisation, storytelling, writing, and devising. Each student is encouraged to discover and develop their own artistry, to explore issues of concern to their community, to identify problems and then actively rehearse solutions.
