Description

In this course students study three classic works of Spanish literature: La vida del Lazarillo de Tormes, by an anonymous author; the first part of Don Quijote de La Mancha, by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra; and La vida es sueño, by Pedro Calderon de la Barca. Students discuss and analyze the historical, socio-cultural, intertextual, metatextual, and self-referential implications of these works, as well as their influence in other arts such as painting and cinema. Students read the original texts and write in Spanish. The language of lectures is English.

Any 9 credit hours in Spanish Studies above the 1000 level, or permission of the Instructor [prerequisite(s)].
