Description
This course allows students to develop an appreciation of the diversity of literature of the Hispanic world through the study of representative short stories from authors of Latin American countries such as: Juan Rulfo (Mexico), Gabriel García Márquez (Colombia), Baldomero Lillo (Chile), Isabel Allende (Chile) among others. Through the reading of these short stories, students are able to expand their Spanish language lexicon, increase their cultural knowledge of the regions as well as augment their historical sociopolitical awareness of the countries of the authors studied. Course approaches include close textual reading of the texts, vocabulary development, and photographs and films on the cultural and historical backgrounds of the works selected.
