Description
This course delves into the intricate relationships between language and societal power through the lens of radical theories of discourse and ideology. Students explore the works of influential theorists of rhetoric and ideology to unveil the subtle mechanisms of persuasion embedded within discourse. Through critical readings, engaging discussions, and analytical assignments, students examine the role of discourse in shaping social realities and perpetuating dynamics of power and subjection. By the end of the course, students gain a deeper understanding of the transformative potential of discourse and are equipped to critically engage with ideologies expressed in discourses about contemporary social issues.
