The course examines the experience of women in several Asian cultures (e.g., India, China, Japan), in different religious traditions (e.g., Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Daoism). The course is intended as a comprehensive introduction to women's experience in both pre-modern and modern contexts, with attention to how women are perceived and perceive themselves in religious and cultural roles.
