Politics of Love and Sex

Description

This course offers students the opportunity to study political thought through the prism of love and sex. Students are introduced to some of the central thinkers in the Western canon (such as Plato, Augustine, Rousseau, and Wollstonecraft). We consider the complexity and persistence of problems for human society related to love and sexuality. In addition, the course allows for a close examination of current controversies revolving around these human passions, such as gender relations, pornography, homosexual marriage, and prostitution.
