Description
This course explores sixteenth century political thought in the historical context of the dramatic transformations of the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Scientific Revolution and the rise of capitalism. Key thinkers examined include: Machiavelli, Erasmus, More, Luther, Calvin, Boding and Thomas Smith. Special attention is given to newly emerging conceptions of power, state, citizen, family and political freedom.
