Description
The course examines how an array of cross-cutting democratic objectives, including local democracy, representation, equity and equality, and effective governance, shape the politics, policy, and organizational structure of cities and city regions in Canada. The course covers a number of topics, including: the role of and the relationship between elected officials and city staff in municipal government; oversight and accountability at the local level; municipal elections and electoral systems; municipal budgeting; and city regional governance.
