Description

This course examines the philosophical thought of the European Renaissance, from 1400 to 1600. Themes include the Renaissance recovery of classical Greek philosophy, the Renaissance interpretation and development of Arabic (Islamic and Judaic) philosophy, mathematics, science and Renaissance humanism. Authors include: Petrarch, Pico, Nicholas of Cusa, Marsillo Ficino, Erasmus, Thomas More, Bacon, Galileo, and Machiavelli.
