Description
This lecture/seminar course is an introduction to the study of art and architecture of the mid-14th to the 16th century Northern regions of Western Europe (France, England, Germany and the Netherlands) in the context of the social, political, and economic circumstances of this time. More specific topics should capture our attention, such as the development of panel and manuscript paintings, prints, the rise of realism and secular subjects in the arts, the transformation of the artist's status, and art patronage.
