Description
This lecture/seminar course engages with critical theories and practices in contemporary art, culture and design in relation to board and subcultures. Surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding, graffiti, and music such as punk and rap have a long history of disrupting public space and place. This course investigates how people make meaningful connections with these communities through the skate park, board videos, outdoor festivals and concerts. It reflects on key concepts in critical race theory, feminist, anti-oppressive and collaborative methodologies in conjunction with board and subcultures by drawing on the unique geographic locations of each of these subcultures within Canada and globally.
