Description
This lecture/seminar course examines ideas about cities and urban life. Topics may include Indigenous understandings of place and space, colonialism, public art and urban design, race, gender, disability and sexuality, Modernist utopias of the city, urban landscape and contemporary theories, and practices of urban planning. The course investigates concepts of the land and landscapes as frameworks for both the natural and built environment. The course examines how humans have transformed and manipulated space over time, while simultaneously developing cultures that encompass a range of ideas and attitudes towards landscape, place, identity, narrative and community.
