Description
This course examines selected topics in the history of colonial India from the eighteenth century to the Partition of the subcontinent in 1947 using lectures and seminar discussions. Topics may include the structures and processes of colonialism, the East India Company, resistance to colonialism, the emergence of nationalism, moderate and extremist movements, Hindu nationalism, nationalist leadership, dalit liberation movement, women in the nationalist movement and the reasons for and impact of Partition of the sub-continent.
