Description
This lecture/seminar course explores Mennonite religious, cultural, and economic life in imperial Russia (including the territory of present-day Ukraine) and the Soviet Union during the 19th and 20th centuries. It focuses on the engagement of this minority ethno-confessional community with state officials, the environment, markets and neighbours. In geographies spanning Ukraine to Uzbekistan, it covers topics such as colonization, revolution, collectivization, and religious life under communism.
