Description
This course is a survey of the development of western medicine from the ancient period to 1700. Topics include the origin of the ancient medical tradition; the Hippocratic Oath and the origin of medical ethics; the Black Death and medieval medicine; and the seventeenth century scientific revolution in medicine. The course will relate medical practice to its scientific, philosophic and social bases.
