Description
This course is a survey of environmental history of North and South America from the pre-Columbian civilizations until the present. The course takes a hemispheric perspective to examine the diverse ways in which human societies across the Americas have interacted with their natural environments. While the first half of the course concentrates on the impact of European colonization on the 'New World', the second half focuses on how industrialization and urbanization have changed the various eco-systems of the Americas.
