History of Capitalism

Description

This course investigates the historical development of capitalism, as well as major interpretive debates among scholars of business history and the history of capitalism. Beginning with a discussion of sixteenth-century trade and commerce, the course explores the development of transportation and mass production, the emergence of a managerial class, the roles of women and of workers, advertising and consumption, and alternative ownership structures, among others.
