Description
This course introduces students to the unity of the Indian Ocean World comprising Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and South Asia examining human-environment interaction at the regional and interregional levels up to 1700. Major themes may include slavery, trade, migration, urbanization, empires and colonization, changing roles of women and warfare. Students are also introduced to the basics of historical research such as the examination of evidence and interpretations, comparative analysis, and bibliographic and narrative skills. Max. 6 cr hr 1000 History may be counted for degree credit.
