Description
The process of urbanization is now a developing, as opposed to a developed, world phenomenon. This course will explore the factors promoting urbanization in the developing world and discuss models of third world cities. The emphasis will be on problems facing the cities and the solutions that have been attempted. Specific topics will include urban growth and management, urban services, squatter settlements, the housing market, survival tactics of the urban poor, urban government, and the function of the city in the developing world.
