Description
This course offers a critical study of works representative of the rich literary production of the seventeenth century, dominated by Louis XIV and the Court of Versailles. While emphasis will vary from year to year, this course may include works by major authors such as Molière, Racine, La Fontaine, Madame de Sévigné and Madame de La Fayette. The course will investigate some of the changing concepts of tragedy and comedy, and trends such as préciosité, classicisme, honnêteté and absolutisme.

6 credit hours of French Studies literature courses at the 2000-level and permission of the Honours advisor [prerequisite(s)].
