Description
This course offers a critical study of first-person literature in Canada, including Manitoba. Texts may include autobiographies, autofiction, memoirs, diaries, and letters. Students study the works of authors such as Gabrielle Roy, France Theoret, Nelly Arcan, Denise Bombardier, Claire Martin, and Gerald Leblanc from a literary perspective, with a focus on how their texts communicate a personal point of view. Students analyze the ways authors present their experiences with a concentration on the different forms personal writing can take, and what these forms suggest about the social and historical contexts in which first-person literature is produced in Canada.

6 credit hours in 2000-level French Studies literature courses or permission of the instructor [prerequisite(s)].
