Description
In this course, students study a selection of contemporary Canadian francophone novels. The chosen texts represent major literary trends since 1960, and they vary in structure as well as the social, cultural and political questions they raise. Topics may include the uniquely Canadian narrative of Gabrielle Roy, Antonine Maillet's Acadian perspective, Marie-Claire Blais' revolutionary examination of the traditional Quebecois family, Réjean Ducharme's imagining of children's experiences, the dark worlds created by Gaétan Soucy, the feminist thought of Nancy Huston, and Ying Chen's take on the experience of immigration. Frequent discussions take a table ronde format.
