Description
Development is increasingly understood as a participatory, deliberate process aimed at enhancing the quality of life for individuals within community. This course examines the concept, theory, and practice of voluntary simplicity as a means of development for individuals seeking environmentally sustainable alternatives to consumer values and culture. The course explores both the historical roots of voluntary simplicity and its modern expressions and is informed by the understanding that effective conflict resolution practice is enhanced by building emotional well-being, vibrant community, sustainable environment, and social justice.
Requisite courses
ENV-1600(3) or IDS-1100(6) or permission of the instructor [prerequisite(s)].
