Description
This course offers a critical introduction to biblical texts and their relationships to, and influences on, literary and cultural production. Students read biblical texts in relation to a historical and generic range of literary and cultural texts that draw on, explore, challenge, parody, and satirize biblical texts, themes, images, characters, and symbols. Students examine biblical texts as they are negotiated in contemporary secular society in relation to various topics such as histories of colonization, "English studies," and transcultural challenges. This course may be repeated once when the topic varies.
