Description
This course focuses on popular cultural forms and genres, and also the very idea of "the popular" itself, in literature, film, and other media (tv, web). Depending on the year, the course may introduce students to types of popular literature and film from different historical periods and locations, or it may focus on one particular area, nation, theme, or genre (romance; horror, detection; fantasy; the western). Students explore central terminologies, concepts, and theories in the study of popular literature and film and develop their understandings of cultural studies and film studies in relation to literary studies.
