Description
This course is designed to provide teachers with an awareness and understanding of issues concerning children and youth from refugee and immigrant backgrounds. The global concern for peace education, conflict resolution, and basic human entitlements are addressed. Teachers who work in multi-ethnic cities must learn how to meet the unique needs of newcomer students and their families. Students examine the state of the world's children and learn how to effectively address the psychosocial and emotional needs of these children in today's classrooms. Students also learn how to foster resilience by developing the talents, skills, and gifts of children who have refugee and immigrant backgrounds.
