Description
This course explores issues involved in the reconstruction of ancient environmental and ecological conditions (predominantly for Greco Roman antiquity). Topics addressed include the use of environmental archaeology in assessing paleoenvironments; natural resource and landscape exploitation in antiquity as determined from literary, artistic, and archaeological datasets; climate and environmental change; human management of environmental conditions, including overhunting, deforestation, pollution and natural disasters. Students at the advanced level work with challenging sources, especially modern scholarly accounts. This course prepares students for graduate study in Classical Archaeology.
Requisite courses

Honours Form Required. Students may not hold credit for this course and CLAS-3910 | ANTH-3214.
