Description
This course explores the nature and function of ritual behaviour, display, and pageantry in the Greek and Roman worlds. Theoretical approaches illuminate the various categories of ancient evidence. Particular topics for consideration vary, but include military triumphs and commemorations, theatrical and sporting events within a religious context, or rites of passage such as coming-of-age ceremonies weddings, and funerals. This course may be repeated for credit when the topic varies.
