Description
This course is an introduction to the study of women and the family in the ancient Greek and Roman world. It is organized chronologically; Athens and Rome in the late Republic and early Empire draw special attention. Topics to be treated include women and the family in myth, kinship institutions, marriage, the family as an economic unit, relations within the family, women in law, politics, religion, sport, and literature.
