Description
This course discusses the upbringing, socialization, and education of children and young adults in the Greek and Roman worlds. Stressing the evidence of the ancient sources, it will deal with rituals of admission into the family and community, methods of socialization (naming practices, modelling, myth), and the development and nature of schools. The course pays particular attention to ideas and practices concerned with the development of children into adults.
