Description

This topics course focuses on the development, growth and sustainability of co-operative businesses (financial and non-financial). Utilizing case studies, literature reviews and environmental scans, students gain an understanding of the unique characteristics of the co-operative organizational structure. The course engages students through in-class discussions and lectures with a final outcome of a student paper. Students gain a greater understanding of the co-operative sector as a business model and social movement, and are able to compare the co-operative movement to social movements such as La Via Campesina, Food Sovereignty Movement and other grassroots movements.

Requisite courses

BUS-3300, AND BUS-3301 OR BUS-3302, all with a minimum grade of C+ [prerequisite(s)]; and students must have met their university writing requirement with a minimum grade of C+ (or exemption), OR Permission of Instructor [prerequisite(s)].
