Description
This course examines the history of Canadian Indigenous Peoples from the pre-contact period to the early 20th century through the study of Indigenous biographies and material culture. This allows us to examine the history of Indigenous/non-Indigenous interaction from the perspective of individuals involved in the events we study. It familiarizes students with the cultures of Canadian Indigenous Peoples, major events in the history of contact between Indigenous and European peoples, and the construction of historical argument and interpretation, based on an interdisciplinary ethnohistorical approach.
