Description
This course covers the principles and design of operating systems. In the first half of the course students are introduced to multiprogramming and become familiar with the process and thread abstractions. Students are introduced to concurrent programming. Topics include: mutual exclusion, synchronization, and inter-process communication. The second half of the course introduces students to the roles and components of operating systems, and how these components interact. Topics include process control, memory management, file systems, and input/output.
